COS Connections: Unpacking the Child Outcomes Summary Professional Learning Community
Did you know? Beginning this year, OSES will consider district percentages for Indicator 7: Child Outcomes Summary (COS) as part of district determinations. Now is the time to strengthen your team’s understanding and implementation of the COS process.
Join us for a virtual, four-part professional learning community (PLC) designed to build a shared understanding of the Child Outcomes Summary (COS) process. Using the Child Outcomes Summary Online Learning Module available through the South Carolina Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Services (OSES) and developed by the Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center (ECTA) and the Center for IDEA Early Childhood Data Systems (DaSy), participants will explore the three early childhood outcomes; learn how to gather and connect information from multiple sources; and practice using the COS decision-making process to determine accurate outcome ratings.
Through professional learning community discussion and module-based activities, participants will strengthen their ability to use the COS to tell a meaningful, functional story of each child’s progress across everyday routines and settings. Districts are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to build staff capacity and support consistent, accurate implementation of the COS. After participating in this Professional Learning Community, participants will be given the opportunity to complete the Child Outcomes Summary Knowledge Check (COS-KC), an assessment that examines whether a practitioner has sufficient knowledge to participate in the COS team process and produce accurate ratings for child outcomes measurement.
