Establishing expectations for students with autism and others has been well established as one of the core components of universal, Tier 1 supports in classrooms—supports that not only prevent challenging behavior but also increase desirable behaviors necessary for learning. Yet, the details of how to set up and teach expectations that are truly effective long term are lost on many educators who haven’t received adequate training and support in this area.

This in turn leads to lack of clarity, frustration, and ultimately low motivation on both the educator’s and student’s ends. The good news? We’re here to walk you through the ins and outs of this high-leverage practice, leaving you with a strong knowledge base of the art behind crafting and teaching expectations for any classroom. By the end of this edWebinar, attendees will be able to:

  • List reasons why students may struggle to follow expectations
  • State what expectations are and are not
  • Describe two different ways to establish expectations
  • Identify the steps necessary to explicitly teach expectations
  • List three ways to increase adherence to established expectations

This edWebinar will be of interest to PreK-12 teachers, librarians, school leaders, and district leaders. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.
