Specially-Designed Instruction, or SDI, is how IDEA defines special education. SDI includes considerations for how instruction should be tailored to a particular student for access and advancement in the general education curriculum. SDI involves assessment of a student’s needs and instructional planning and delivery. In this session, the IDEA definition of SDI will be dissected and connected to implementation including the areas of Data-Based Individualization (DBI), IEP development, and evidence-based and high-leverage instructional strategies.
